March Blog - Quiz

There's isn't much to talk about for this blog except the quiz. In general I did fairly well on the quiz, it was mt highest mark yet. It wasn't too difficult, but I had to learn the concepts again because I released I didn't understand it as much as I thought I did. Despite passing the quiz with fairly good marks I had to go back to the notes on the wiki page and learn it again. By the end of the day i pretty much ended up doing this with most of the course notes because I noticed that I was forgetting most of the stuff we already learned. It was fairly eye opening because I realized that even if i understood a topic once, I had to keep playing around with the work or keep reading the notes so I continue to remember it. Good thing I realized this before the final project.

SPO PROJECT - STAGE 2

Hi everyone, for this blog I will talk about the second stage of the project, how it went and what I did. I've noticed that this class looks very difficult but when you do the actual work its extremely easy. For this Stage I had to do some profiling on the open source project i selected in Stage 1. The link to stage 1 can be found at the bottom of this post. Like the first stage i had to do this for the AArch64 and the x86_64 architectures. The first architecture i attempted this on was a x86_64 architecture and I was a bit confused. During stage 1 and 83mb file took around 4 minutes on average to compress. After trying again today it was taking over 8 minutes. I could not figure out why this was happening and I spent quite some time on it. Defeated, I decided to just use a 43mb file instead that ended up taking the amount of time I posted on stage 1.   X86_65 So after watching the helpful video that my professor posted on the CDOT wiki, I attempted to "profile"...

Lab 4 - Continued

Hey everyone, this blog will talk breifly about what I learned during the lecture and my overall progress on the lab 4. On Friday during the Lecture we learned and talked about current architectures and the history of CPUs. Two architectures that stood out were ARM and x86_64. Regarding the Lab I'm currently still working on it. Im currently being swarmed by other assignments from other classes so unfortunately I've been ignoring this lab. Though it is close to being completed.

SPO PROJECT - STAGE 3

Hi everyone, for this blog i am going to attempt or figure out a way to optimize the code in the Zopli program.After profiling in stage 2 i found out that the function that was taking up the majority of the run time for the program was called ZopliUpdateHash(). Since this was taking up a bulk of the time iI decided that this function was the first thing that needed to be optimized since it would have the largest affect. This function can be found under the file named "hash.c" and looks like this. Aside from this function I did look around for other functions to see if there was anything else i could optimize. After looking for about 15 minutes I noticed that the code was well written and it well documented on the Github.
